Bonding agents technology
Using existing and available materials, ASCEM develops new bonding agent combinations. Compared to regular cement types, these help reduce the environmental impact and especially the CO2 emission levels. This enables us to improve our products’ environmental score. The lower CO2 emission level is a major factor in this regard.
On top of that, ASCEM has also developed a bonding agent that is more sustainable and has better properties than the commonly used Portland cement. We call this product ASCEM cement. This bonding agent is made from seemingly "worthless” materials from e.g. residual streams from the industrial sector. Instead of this material being dumped, we use a melting process to upgrade and apply it in new ways. This ASCEM cement consists of 85% reused material. It represents another step on the way towards the realisation of a circular economy. With our cement, we can achieve a CO2 reduction of circa eighty to ninety percent, compared to Portland cement.
ASCEM has been working on the development of its own sustainable alternative to Portland cement for a long time. This new material is currently ready for production on an industrial scale. We see ASCEM cement as the bonding agent of the future. It has already been proven and is being applied in a number of our products and in existing production processes. In the years to come, we will implement the material and refine its development in order to facilitate even broader applications.
The bonding agent can already be used for stones, pipes, tiles and kerbstones. Our ultimate goal is to make the material suitable for constructive concrete as well. However, that will require a period of additional validation and testing. We carry out our practical tests and trials in collaboration with our clients. We also look for solutions together if products do not meet expectations yet.
